Maximising my space

Residing near the Oracle Shopping Centre, I urgently needed wardrobes for bedrooms for my awkward walls.

I spotted the site online after a quick search. I emailed some images and arranged a visit to begin the process.

I had been wrestling with the unique layout of my top floor room for countless months. The sloping ceiling made finding standard furniture difficult. Every cabinet I looked at in local shops was too tall to sit against the rear wall. This drove me to hunt for a bespoke solution that could utilise every single inch. I wanted to change the messy corner into a storage area that felt intentional. After wasting hours looking through different websites, I eventually came across the gallery of Central Bedroom and Kitchens and straight away liked the style of their previous installations in homes similar to mine. The initial contact was extremely straightforward; I just sent out a form and attached a few basic measurements of the alcove height.

The technician who visited to my house was on time and appeared very professional about dealing with these specific types of shapes. We utilised a considerable amount of time reviewing the internal layout of the units. I detailed that I wanted a mix of hanging space and racks for my shoes. It was interesting to see the samples of textures they offered. I selected a modern tone that matched the natural light in the bedroom. One small issue was the wait for the custom panels to be made, which lasted a few days longer than I first hoped, but I realised that craftsmanship cannot be rushed. During the measuring phase, the pro used a precise tool to ensure that the base would sit perfectly against the old walls. We talked whether to use mirrors on the doors to enhance the feeling of room in the small corridor going to the bathroom. This level of detail gave me confidence that the end result would be exactly as I visualised.

When the fitting day arrived, the team were careful of my home. They laid down dust sheets before bringing in the massive components. It was amazing to watch how they assembled the inner carcass to begin. Because the walls in older houses are never perfectly flat, they had to scribe the end panels meticulously by using tools. This process took the whole morning, but the seal against the wall was tight. I watched as they fixed the strong rails into place. Every joint was tested to make sure the weight of my heavy wardrobe collection would be supported without failing. They even adjusted the alignment multiple times to make sure the motion was smooth. Seeing the frame of the wardrobe transform into a finished piece of furniture was truly satisfying. They toiled through the lunch break to finish the beading, which proved a strong work ethic. The dust was kept to a low level because they employed an integrated vacuum system while sawing the boards outside on the pavement.

The result is truly transformative for the usability of the room. What was once dead space is now a modern storage hub. The doors slide effortlessly, and the cushioned mechanism functions perfectly all the time. I no further have bins of items sitting out in the open of the room. The bright colour we picked reflects the sun light coming through the velux window, making the whole floor feel much bigger. Although the made-to-measure nature of the install meant it was an expense, the benefit it has added to my everyday life is immense. I can access my clothes in moments now, and the tidiness has lowered my morning rush significantly. Even the narrow shelves we tucked into the lowest part of the eaves are perfect for keeping bulky towels. The standard of the seams is clean, with no seen gaps at the point the board meets the wall. It actually feels like the unit was integrated into the house from the outset. Looking over the project, the decision to skip flat-pack furniture was definitely the correct one for this particular house design.

My family who have visited since the fitting was done are mostly impressed by how neat it looks. It doesn't feel like a heavy addition; instead, it incorporates with the lines of the ceiling. I like how the installer took the care to show how to care for the runners to make them working well for a long time. Having a dedicated place for all my things has helped me to declutter the rest of the property. The journey from the early website search to the last wipe-down of the doors was efficient. Even though I had to empty my full room for the install, the short-term disruption was valid for the long-term gain. The quality of the drawers suggests this should last for as many years as I live in this fitted loft wardrobes home. I believe that investing into quality storage is one of the best ways to enhance a limited living environment. The full project has provided me a new appreciation for specialised joinery and the talent required to handle awkward spaces. I truly value the calm that comes with a tidy bedroom, and these units have achieved that perfectly.

Looking forward, I might use the identical style for the guest room on the first floor. The matching look of having custom storage across the home is attractive. It removes the need for ugly freestanding boxes. Every touchpoint I had with the staff was helpful, and they listened to my concerns about the height constraints. The total cost was fair considering the unique nature of the components used. I advise anyone facing similar loft issues to look into this path rather than settling to make standard furniture work in sloped areas. The difference in capacity is evident from the moment you open the doors. It is uncommon to find a business that delivers exactly what they promise on their site, but in this case, I was extremely pleased. The process was neat, and the finish is strong. I am very content with my decision to go with custom built-in solutions for my residence. The change of the top floor is now done, and it feels better than I originally expected it would.

The final experience reminded me that taking time for bespoke work pays in a better finish. When the daylight hits the finished surface of the doors in the early afternoon, it gives a luxurious feel to the entire room. I no longer have to lean to access my belongings because the internals were mapped specifically for my reach. The thick shelves can comfortably hold my heavy stack of sweaters without any worry of flexing. It is clear that the materials used are of a good standard, far beyond what you usually get in a standard flat-pack kit. Even the interior panels feel solid, which is often a weak point in lesser furniture. I believe that this improvement has probably increased the resale value of the property as well. Prospective people always search for integrated storage, and this exactly fits that need. The reality that it uses the awkward space behind the eaves is a big selling point. I am pleased I took the step and put money in a system that functions so perfectly.

Everything related to the project was managed with a careful attitude. From the initial phone discussion to the last check of the sliding mechanism, the communication was clear. I liked that they did not try to upsell me additional features that I couldn't use. Instead, they concentrated on what would really benefit the loft I had. The estimate was detailed, so I understood exactly what I was spending for. There appeared no extra costs at the completion of the install, which is always a relief. Having a Reading-based presence also ensured me confidence that if any issues arose, they could easily be sorted quickly. Thankfully, the quality of the fitting was such that no follow-up visits were needed. I can now enjoy a tidy environment every day. The quiet of my room is now complete, and it has become truly my favourite part of the house. I look at the storage and feel that I made the correct possible choice for the distant future of my home space.

The impact on my regular routine is arguably the most significant benefit. Being able to browse all my shoes at a glance saves me at nearly ten minutes of time every morning. The layout is so logical that stashing away clean clothes is no longer a chore. I chose to keep some exposed shelving for my most used jackets, which operates brilliantly. The joiners proposed a specific depth for the shelves to guarantee they didn't protrude too much into the floor space. This input was critical because it kept the movement of the loft. Even the finish of the hardware was thoughtfully considered to suit the window frames. It is these minute touches that raise the overall look from basic to custom. I recommend anyone planning a bedroom renovation to prioritize their storage space at the start. It is the core of a working room. I am thoroughly impressed with the longevity of the runners, which seem like they will withstand years of daily use. My process with this project has finished on a very positive result. The loft feels complete now.
